Soulcalibur Legends (Wii)

Hello gamers,
Today’s post is a review of Soulcalibur Legends for the Nintendo Wii.

Story:
The story of SCL takes place right after Siegfried takes Soul Edge to overcome the fear of loss. After claiming the sword, you release these monsters which come alive when someone takes Soul Edge as a host. The game’s setting is between Soulcalibur 1 and 2. You go on as a good guy and try to help this Emperor who’s being attack by an opposing group which seems to work with the monsters who came after Soul Edge. After playing a few levels, you meet with old characters like Ivy and Taki. The bad part of the story is that a lot of the maps seem to repeat a lot, and the dialogue is really boring as you read text that doesn’t mean a lot to the story.

Controls:
The controls for the game aren’t too bad. To swing, you simply do a vertical stroke for a vertical slice, and a horizontal stroke for a horizontal strike. It’s pretty responsive in a lot of the moves you can do, and you can enter some sort of “super mode” to make your attacks more powerful. Since the game is like an RPG, you lock onto one single enemy by pressing “A” and destroy him to move onto the next one. You guard with “B” and jump with “Z”. You can do some air combos. The controls aren’t perfect though. For one, when you try to dash, you basically will never know which direction you’re going to head in. When you try to dash left, you go down; when you try to dash right you go up. The dashing is really the worst thing about the controls.

Multiplayer:
Don’t get too excited for multiplayer. I was really disappointed with it when my friend came over to play. You do have options though like co-op, 1 on 1 and other modes. The problem is….it’s not too fun. Once you play once or twice, you get board. It doesn’t offer a lot and just seems to repeat. SCL doesn’t stand a chance against Soulcalibur II’s multiplayer.

So, sorry Soulcalibur fans if you were expecting a great Soulcalibur game. The game doesn’t stand a chance against Soulcalibur two or three for that matter. However, the controls are pretty good. I give SCL 7 out of 10.

Ups: Okay controls, okay replay value.
Downs: Story gets boring, controls don’t always work, and single player and multiplayer become repetitive.

Well, that’s all for now,

VGC News!

Hello gamers,
It's another VGC News! post!

Last night, as I was looking on the web, I came to a forum and found an interesting comment; a comment about Super Smash Bros. Brawl being delayed again. I thought to myself, "This can't be true!" However, according to Smash Bros. DOJO!, they moved the game release to March 9. A very unfortunate outcome due to delays the SSBB team has had. The game was originally coming out in December of 2007, until it was delayed to Feb. 10. Now that they had even more trouble, it's coming out March 9 (for all we know).

This is one problem I have with Nintendo, they will always give news when they aren't really sure it's going to happen (like a release date) and then delay it or not even have it. For example, do you remember when they told us that Metroid Prime 3 was a launch title for the Wii back in 2005? Do you remember when they changed the date about two or three times? It's kind of the same thing as SSBB. This is my advice, Nintendo; don't tell gamers dates or anything about your games until you are 100 percent sure it's coming out on this exact date.

Well, that's all for now,

Nacho Libre (DS)

Hello gamers,
this post is a review of the DS game, Nacho Libre.

What do you get when you make a movie into a game? Most of the time, nothing impressive. The same can be said for Nacho Libre. Not that I was expecting a lot from this game, but it did have it’s good parts.

Story:
If you’ve seen the movie, you should now what the story is for the game. You are Nacho Libre; cook Ignacio at day, famous fighter Nacho at night. After working at an orphanage for your entire life cooking food for the children, you are fall in love with a new nun that has joined. You try to impress her by fighting, but she doesn’t really enjoy fighting and finds it “sinful”. You join forces with Steven, who is a homeless person who tries to make you a good fighter.

Gameplay:
Through out the game, you have wrestling matches to help you unlock moves and characters. Between that, you have little mini-games that can add replay value. Although you have all those things, the game only took me a half-an-hour to finish (seriously). The cool thing is that they add little clips from the movie which sound and look really good. My mini-game is when you have to swat the bees off of Steven (very funny).

Controls:
The controls for the game are bad and good from what you are playing. For some mini-games, the controls never work. For example, the basketball game is very, very frustrating. You’re supposed to use the stylus to “flick” the ball into the hoop, which doesn’t ever really work. It took me about an hour after I beat the game to finally get one hoop. A good example of the controls would be the wrestling matches. Although it works pretty well, it’s hard to pin someone (and tag your partner). The good news is that the game has a pretty good in-depth help page on the controls if you get stuck.

Multiplayer:
The multiplayer was pretty disappointing. Even though you get a good bit of characters to choose from, it doesn’t matter who you are because the match is over once the person gets the first punch. They have single card play (people who don’t have the game can download) and multi card game (play with people who have the game). It gets boring after about three minutes of playing.

What can I say about Nacho Libre? I wasn’t really expecting this game to be a great game. However, it does have some fun parts and has funny clips. Besides that, it’s very special to me because my friend, KJ13, got it for me on Christmas. I give Nacho Libra for the DS 3 out of 10.

Ups: Nice clips, okay controls (depending on what you play).
Downs: Way too easy, very short single player, boring multiplayer.

Halo 3 (Xbox 360)

Hello gamers,
Today’s post is a review of Halo3 for the Xbox 360. Hope you enjoy.

Story:
Halo 3 is a continuation of Halo for the original Xbox. You are Master Chief Spartan 117, the last Spartan of the SPARTAN II project made by the USNC. After the first Halo is destroyed, the Covenant (the alien race bent on destroying Earth and the Humans) have been split by a revolution and Cortana under the control of the Gravemind; you are on a Forerunners ship headed to Earth to stop the Covenant attack. When you land, you find that the Covenant leader (the Prophet of Truth) has been digging for The Ark, a powerful structure that will tell all Halos to fire. Not only that, but the Flood have landed on Earth, and you must destroy the Ark and the Prophet before all life is lost. You are Humanity’s last and best hope.

Controls:
If you’ve played Halo 1 or 2, the controls shouldn’t really be that weird to you. It’s pretty much the same layout, except you have the “RB” button to reload and the “LB” button the throw grenades or double wield. You can also lay some special weapons or shields by hitting “X” when you get one. You use “A” to jump and “B” to melee attack. I don’t really like how to crouch; you had to hold down the joystick.

Weapons:
You get a lot of new weapons in Halo 3. One of the new weapons is the “Brute Spiker” which can fire metal rods into an enemy. It’s like the Needler, but doesn’t explode. One other new gun is the “Spartan Laser”. This is one of the most powerful games on the series. It fires a very large laser that will ripe a tank apart. You can have five shots, but be careful; it takes a while to fire and is very accurate. One new weapon is the “Brute Hammer”. It’s like the energy sword, only more powerful. This can fire a shock wave that will throw enemies away and destroy them. The hard thing is trying to get one. You also get new grenades with the game. You can have a “Spike Grenade” which a Brute grenade. When you throw, it will take a few seconds and will explode, then fire little spikes that can kill your enemy. They also have a flame grenade which will catch your enemies on fire. Some other weapons are some big, that you have to rip them off to get them. One such weapon is the AIE-486H HMG Machine Gun which has 200 rounds of death. It’s a Warthog turret that will destroy your enemies in 10 rounds or less (if you’re a good shot). Along with that is the Plasma Cannon. It’s basically the same thing as the Warthog turret, only with a slower firing speed. The good thing about the gun is that there are a lot of them lying around. The last weapon is only on multiplayer. It’s the Missile Pod, which fires homing missiles.

Single Player:
Although I think the single play has a great story, it’s a little too easy (even on Legendary). You have 10 really thought out levels. However, the levels can be short. In fact, I beat the game in about five hours. If you’re looking for a strong single player, you won’t probably get it from Halo 3. However, I think the last level is worth playing (really fun).

Lobby:
The lobby is the place where you can select any of the game modes you want. You have Solo single player game, Campaign (play single player Co-op), Matchmaking (online multiplayer), Custom Games (play against friends at home on multiplayer), Forge (make your very own maps) and Theater were you can view videos and take screen shots to send to friends. The only problem is that the layout for the lobby is a little bit confusing. Not everyone knows what each mode is. I had to look in the player’s manual to find out (which I rarely have to do).

Multiplayer:
I’m very sorry gamers, but I haven’t been able to play online on Halo yet. However, I will get on soon and maybe make a post about it. However, I will tell you about the single console multiplayer. The multiplayer is pretty amazing. Not only to you have such an insane amount of options to choose from (like infinite ammo, camouflage, infinite grenades and much more). You can even make your own maps. You can customize your character (unlock bonus parts in single player) with your own symbol, color, helmet and armor. If nothing else, Halo 3 really outdoes itself in multiplayer. Even though you have to play to get online, I would really suggest doing so.

Graphics:
As expected, Halo 3 really does a great job with the graphics. From lush forests, to snowy landscapes, Halo 3 has it all. The best example of the stunning graphics would be the bubble shield. It looks so amazing. Even when you’re on a highway to Voi, you can look across to see The Ark’s portal. It looks really cool.

So, this is what I think of the final Halo game. It’s got its good times, and its bad times. However, the good times has really stood out in this game. I give Halo 3 9.3 out of 10.

Ups: Amazing multiplayer, great graphics, good story.
Downs: Easy single player, needs to make menu easier to understand.

Well, that's all for now,
