Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed! (Wii)

Hello gamers,
Today’s post is a review of Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed! for the Nintendo Wii. I hope you enjoy it!

Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed! does some things right and wrong. Weather it’s a must buy game is up to you.

The game begins as Crypto (the main character who’s part of an alien race called the “Furons”) talks with his partner in destruction, Pox (a holographic image of what used to be a living alien). Pox tells Crypto that he’s killed so many humans that he had to think of some way of getting rid of them. He tells Crypto that his fast food restaurant, Big Willy (which serves hot dogs), has meat made up of the dead humans. The entire plot of the story is trying to make Big Willy one of the top fast food chains in the world and to stop Colonel Kluckin from destroying Pox’s plans and making his KFC style restaurant the top food source. The plot isn’t entirely bad, but it could be better with more detail and depth. I do think it makes up for the lack of depth with the humorous dialogue between Pox and Crypto. Even though they’re partners, they still don’t really like each other. Pox is the evil genius behind everything, but wants his old body back. Crypto is the blood-thirsty killer who doesn’t care who it is he has to kill as long as he can satisfy his trigger-happy finger (although, he’d really prefer not to kill the “earth babes”). They usually agree with each other on who to kill, but how to kill them brings up arguments between the two characters. That’s really something I liked about the game; they gave the game a dark comedy aspect to the game. The player can choose missions that go along with the story or they can just go around the place and kill all the humans. This is where the game can kind of become repetitive. The gamer is going to do the same thing in every mission basically, and sometimes they will have to fight the occasional boss. It’s the same concept as GTA, only toned down.

As for the controls, I really don’t have anything to complain about. It works well with the Wii-mote, and allows the player to be able to aim instead of most other games where it would have been a lock-on. Use Crypto’s jet-pack by jumping twice, and holding the button to fly over water and other places. Switch weapons by holding down one of the D-Pad buttons or by pressing left or right on the D-Pad. Crypto also has mental abilities which let the player pick up people and cars, hypnotize people into doing what you want, take over bodies and much more. Some (like hypnotize and body snatch) cause the player to have to hold the “A” button where as others (PK hold) make them hold “A” and “B” at the same time while moving them back and forth with the Wii-mote. If there is any problem with the controls, it would be that they didn’t’ let you choose a sensitivity level for the aiming. Besides that, the controls worked pretty well.

The weapons in the game are what really make the game great. Choose to be on foot, in a giant robot or in the air with Crypto’s “Saucer”. On foot, unlock guns as you go though the level. A list of weapons are the Zap-o-matic, the zombie gun and (my personal favorite), the Anal Probe. The weapons in the Big Willy Robot go from throwing up acid onto enemies to blowing buildings down with atomic farts. The Saucer gives the player the classic death ray and a few other weapons such as my favorite, the Quantum-D (a massive explosion that can wipe out all enemies in a three block radius). After you beat the game, you can unlock the shrink ray and turn humans and cars into the size of toys. It’s really quite amazing.

Sadly, the game really doesn’t do so well in the visual aspect of the game. The graphics are some of the worst I’ve seen from the next generation games. The textures don’t look really good and the characters can at times look blocky. They could have done a better job with graphics, but graphics isn’t what should decide on how good the game is.

The idea of giving DAH: BWU a multiplayer mode is a great idea, but it didn’t really work out. They gave the gamer the option to play co-op and competitive, which sounds good until you find out there is only two missions for each mode. I was playing with my brother on the game and I was really disappointed. It didn’t let players have different characters, they couldn’t choose different modes for competitive and it was also annoying that they didn’t let the player have the ability to choose levels from single player to play on co-op. Multiplayer is one of the worst things about the game.

So, is Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed! worth your time? It lets you have a good time killing people for the fast food industry, but doesn’t deliver with replay value and can become repetitive. I give it 6.5 out of 10.

Ups: Very strong single player, script is good, awesome weapons and abilities.
Downs: Can become repetitive, horrible multiplayer, doesn’t have any good replay value.

Underrated...

Hello gamers,
I just got my game to review yesterday, so I won’t have it done until next week or so. What I would like to do instead is talk something a little bit different. I was thinking about some different things to write about and this is something that I thought would be interesting. Today’s post is about the most underrated game I have ever played.

Jet Force Gemini for the N64

Jet Force Gemini was the first shooter that I can ever remember playing. My mom and dad got it for me for Christmas as an unexpected gift (I didn’t even ask for it). My sister had remarked she had played it at a friend’s house before and that she really liked it. So, I put the huge cartridge into the jumbo slot on the N64 and played it. I was instantly hooked. The player starts the game as Juno, a male character that with his sister and pet dog help protect the galaxy. As you start playing the game, you are attacked by Mizar’s (the main enemy of the game) forces and are forced to split apart. Later in the game, the player can become Juno’s sister Vela and later become the dog Lupus. Go planet to planet fighting bosses 100 times your size and held save these teddy-bear looking creatures. It may sound cheesy, but the game is really fun. Rare (the company that brought Donkey Kong 64, Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark) gives the player so many amazing guns. I am shocked to say though, that the game didn’t really do well! I found the game one of the best games I played for the 64 (in my opinion) and was sad to hear that a lot of people hated it.

Well, that’s my story of the most underrated game I have every played. So, tell me what’s the most underrated game you have ever played? Tell me why you like it some much?

I Have Some Questions...

Hello gamers,
I really had a hard time finding something to write about. I've reviewed every game I own and won't be getting a new game until next week or so. In that case, I decided to ask you guys a couple of questions...

First off, do any of you guys have Xbox Live? If so, you can add me if you would like to. My Gamertag is MvC Oddball. I would put my Wii number in, but I don't feel like looking for it right now. I may add it in the comment section.

My second question is what do you think I should change on my blog. Maybe colors or possible new pictures. Just give me some advice. Also, tell me some of the good things about my blog.

My third question is what if I made a contest? Like, what if some of you guys faced me on a game, and the winner gets a prize? Just a thought. I have a couple of nice things :P

So, not a lot of questions and you don't even have to answer them! Wow, isn't that cool!

Well, that's all for now,

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

Hello gamers,
Today’s review is on Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I hope you enjoy it!

This is one of Nintendo’s top selling series, and it’s not wonder why. Brawl not only tops the other Super Smash games, but also changes the game with better single player. The game actually is one of the most addicting games for the Wii so far.

With that being said, the story for the game has really been a real advancement from previous SSB games. The game has the original single player where characters face Master Hand, and they also added a new single player called “The Subspace Emissary”. In the new single player, it not only lets the player be the character they want, but allows them to see how each character connects with other characters. They really added a lot of game time with it and they allowed the possibility of co-op. Now take on bad guys with a friend. This little addition makes the game a lot more interesting. They also allow co-op on event mode (little events with instructions on how to complete the event) and much more.

SSB has always been known to have really great characters, and this game is no different. Some new characters are Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series, Sonic, Pokemon Trainer, Pit, Diddy Kong, Meta Knight, Zero Suit Samus and so many more. Not only have they added characters, they’ve added new weapons. Some new weapons are the smoke ball (which can make smoke appear and confuse enemies), and they have curry (which sets the characters mouth on fire and can cause damage). Not only that, but they added a Golden Hammer, which very rare and is the most powerful weapon. One thing to look for are Smash Balls. When a player destroys one, they will be able to perform their final smash. A final smash allows the character to use a very destructive blow to their enemies. Some, like Samus’s, will catch three characters into a giant beam and shoot them off the stage. Others can stab the opponent with a sword, thrust you into the air, perform multiple slices into the character and knock them all the way off the stage. Every final smash is different with each character.

With so many trophies to unlock, a lot of characters to unlock, new stages to unlock, new music to unlock and records to beat, don’t worry about putting the game up anytime soon. Brawl truly has amazing replay value. They’ve added many new features too. During a multiplayer match or single player match, stickers will fall onto the stage. When collected, use them to upgrade a character on the Subspace Emissary. Some stickers make it so that flinch resistance is increased by 150%! Others let the character carry weapons like the Beam Sword or fan. By the way, did I mention the game allows the player to use four different kinds of controllers? If the Wii-mote isn’t your kind of thing, plug in the Gamecube controller. If the Gamecube controller isn’t your kind of controller, you could use the classic controller or Wii-mote turned sideways. This really allows new players to become better with no hassle. Some other features are the stage builder which allows gamers to make their own stages! Go ahead and make and share stages with friends. I made a stage where the players start on one falling platform, and surrounding them are spikes. The farther the player gets into the game, the more pieces to use in stage builder increases. They also give the player the chance to choose their own music for stages. Collect music by playing single player or during a multiplayer match.

One of SSB shining achievements is the multiplayer. I must say however, the multiplayer isn’t what it used to be........it’s better! Not only can the game crush his friends on multiplayer mode, they can go online and take them out! Online, the player can choose to face friends or other people. With facing other people, they let the gamer choose to team up with them or a free for all. With friends, you can team up, Brawl, or do multi-man melee. Also, with friends, you can make your own taunts. Say whatever you want to your friend. However, even though online multiplayer is a dream come true, it’s also a nightmare. Prepare to play one of the laggest games on the face of the planet. I do understand Nintendo is still new at online gaming, but they still could fix it. After a few matches it gets better, but from time to time it lags.

So, is Brawl the best game ever made? I would say it’s up there, but it still lacks a few things that make it top dog. If they could improve online a bit and make it so you could talk to anyone during game play like XBOX Live does, it would be amazing. I give Brawl 9.9 out of 10.

Ups: Amazing single player, so much to do, so many characters, great replay value, amazing new features.
Downs: Could improve online and allow more of a social experience.
